Maryland RV Camping Destinations
Take the kids to a working farm, wander the boardwalk at Ocean City and sleep in RV comfort in a charming Point Lookout State Park campsite. Seeing it all by RV is the way to go in Maryland. No hotel cancellations and great meals cooked in your own RV kitchen! Isn’t that the way you want to travel? Come to Maryland and find out why visitors return again and again. To start your vacation dreams rolling, here are just a few of our favorite Maryland RV camping destinations.
National Parks
Maryland’s National Parks system encompasses almost anything an RV camper could want to experience. If that doesn’t sound possible, keep reading! We think you’ll find yourself wishing for one more day of vacation, once you learn the delights our National Parks have to offer.
Would your kids like to try their skills at doing chores on a historic farm? If that sounds like fun, the Oxon Cove Park and Oxon Hills Farm run by the National Parks Service are a perfect destination. You’ll find a hands-on experience there for the entire family, as you learn how a Revolutionary War-era plantation weathered the centuries to become a favorite National Parks site.
For an astounding variety of cultural, natural and historical experiences, turn your rental RV toward the Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network. The enormous Chesapeake estuary hosts historic villages, waterways teeming with wildlife and dozens of festivals and celebrations. Once you’ve experienced the Chesapeake, whether driving along winding byways or on an ocean tour, you’re going to want to come back for more!
If your RV navigator likes to think in a straight line, why not focus your trip on a single route, the George Washington Memorial Parkway? This scenic path will take you from rolling Maryland countryside straight through the middle of urban DC, and be your guide to more than twenty historic sites. Cruise along the Parkway to nature sanctuaries and military monuments. See the Robert E. Lee and Clara Barton National Memorials. Then wind up your trip with a visit to Mount Vernon, home of our first president. We think you’ll love the Washington Memorial Parkway, and you can start down the road right with an RV rental from us!
As you can see, we’re proud of Maryland’s National Parks, and we invite you to find out why. Here’s the site for more information from the National Parks Service. Use it to plan your trip and purchase your America the Beautiful National Parks Pass. Once you’ve planned your route, give us a call to help make your vacation dream a reality.
Maryland State Parks
It’s hard not to find something extraordinary in each of Maryland’s State Parks! For example, Gunpowder Falls State Park cuts across central Maryland and features rugged canyon trails and the ruins of three historic mills along its rivers. If your group includes mountain biking enthusiasts, they should try the awesome twelve-mile trail in Green Ridge State Forest in western Maryland.
Active families will love the miles of hiking trails at South Mountain State Park, scene of a famous Civil War skirmish and one of the stops along the Appalachian Trail. While you’re following the Trail, be sure to stop by the nation’s very first Washington Monument near Boonsboro!
To combine even more history with your outdoor activities, head for Point Lookout State Park on Chesapeake Bay. This park is the site of a museum commemorating the area’s history as a Civil War military prison, and also offers numerous scenic RV campsites. Boating, cycling, swimming or hiking—no matter which you love, Point Lookout is the perfect place to be.
For an unforgettable barrier island experience, you’ll want to camp at Assateague State Park on beautiful Assateague Island. Kayakers and canoeists will love the sheltered bays, and ocean fisherman will find plenty of action on these shores.
We think you’ll want to come back to Maryland’s State Parks! Get ready for your first adventure by finding more information at the State Parks site and call us to book your motorhome rental.
Major Attractions and Events
If there are sports fans in your RV camping crew, give them a real thrill by buying tickets for an NFL game! We’re fortunate here in Maryland to have two pro football teams. The Baltimore Ravens hit the field every fall at M&T Bank Stadium at Camden Yards in Baltimore, while the Washington Redskins keep making NFL history at home on FedEx Field in Landover. Pick your favorite team and cheer them on live at the stadium. Don’t forget to pack your RV kitchen with great tailgating cuisine. Half the fun of going to the game happens before the first kickoff!
NASCAR fans are going to love being this close to two great tracks! Both Richmond International Raceway across the state line in Virginia, and Dover International Speedway, just across the Bay in Delaware, are easy RV trips from our Baltimore location. Pack your NASCAR gear and some great food for your tailgate party. These NASCAR RV trips might just become addictive!
RV campers who would rather watch the ponies run can do it free with a paid admission to the Maryland State Fair in August. Eight days of live horseracing at Timonium Racetrack will give fairgoers another reason to make this an annual trip! Your added bonus will be coming home to motorhome comfort at the end of a day at the Fair.
If the kids are crazy about nature, the National Aquarium in Baltimore is the place to visit. Located in the exciting Inner Harbor area, the Aquarium’s new 4D theater’s a real blast! Book a behind-the-scenes tour with the sharks, and don’t miss the thrilling Dolphin Encounter.
When you’re finished at the National Aquarium, stay to visit the rest of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. You’re going to find museums, restaurants and outdoor entertainment that will please the whole family. Take a harbor cruise or eat in one of the great ethnic restaurants. A short water-taxi ride will land you at Fort McHenry, site of the Battle of Baltimore, where Francis Scott Key penned our National Anthem. No matter your interest, you’ll find something fun to do at the Inner Harbor, and you’ll be right across the street from Camden Yards!
To find historic sites and spectacular Chesapeake Bay vistas, don’t miss Annapolis! Stretch your legs on one of our capitol city’s many walking tours, past the nation’s oldest state house still in operation and many historic homes and gardens. But what trip to Annapolis would be complete without visiting the United States Naval Academy? Watch the midshipmen scramble into the noon meal formation and see the nation’s largest dormitory! If you’re lucky enough to be at the Academy on Wednesday evening at 6:00, watch from the Academy Seawall as more than one hundred sailboats race down Spa Creek to the Annapolis Yacht Club!
We haven’t even talked about great college football possibilities yet! The University of Maryland Terrapins play every year in College Park, and they’d love to have you join their fans. Two other area teams offer college sports fun—Howard University’s Bison football squad and the George Washington University Colonials baseball team can show your family a great time. Whether spring or fall sports are your thing, tailgating in the parking lot in your rental RV will start the game off right!
Here are some more of our favorite spots in Maryland. Getting there by RV is easy, so don’t miss a thing when you come to The Old Line State!
