Nevada RV Camping Destinations
We can’t, of course, ignore the spectacular sights and sounds of Las Vegas! Where else in America can you see fountains timed to music, the Eiffel Tower and a rooftop amusement park within a few blocks of each other? It’s also home to some of the hottest gambling venues in the country, along the Strip and on historic Fremont Street. RV campers flock to Vegas, because so many casinos accommodate them with campgrounds or overnight parking lot privileges.
But while you’re in Vegas for the gambling, take a short trip off the strip to the fascinating Atomic Testing Museum. The car buffs along for the ride will love viewing new and vintage sports cars at the Carroll Shelby Museum. Find information on both at the Nevada Tourism website.
If you haven’t been to Reno, you’ll find terrific casinos there, as well. But don’t be afraid to make Reno your family RV vacation destination! Fleischmann Planetarium, at the University of Nevada-Reno, features world class shows and exhibits. Harrah’s National Automobile Museum will give the kids a trip down memory lane through some terrific vehicle displays.
National Parks
Out in the wild, Nevada boasts spectacular National Parks. Great Basin Park offers nature lovers peace, solitude and mountain trails waiting to be hiked. Don’t overlook the variety beckoning RV travelers at Death Valley National Park, either. No sandy wasteland, Death Valleycovers the geographic range from stone canyons to majestic sand dunes. (Please note that travel to Death Valley in our RVs is not permitted in July and August due to extreme heat. In June and September, additional costs may be incurred. Please check with a reservations agent before booking.)
At the southern end of the state, enormous Lake Mead welcomes campers with endless adventure possibilities. For a complete listing of Nevada Parklands, visit the National Parks Service Site https://www.nps.gov.
Nevada State Parks
Fabled Lake Tahoe is also a natural for motorhome campers. The combination of mountain views andbeautiful sandy beaches is truly stunning. This resort in the mountains draws vacationers from around the globe.
You’ll also find Spooner Lake an exciting destination on your RV vacation. Rent mountain bikes or fish the pristine waters, but don’t miss this special treat near Reno.
If a quiet campsite near great fishing is your preference, Wild Horse State Recreation Area near Elko is your best bet. One last State Park tip: if you’d like to incorporate a little learning into your trip, take the kids to Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park near Austin, Nevada. Spend time in the prehistoric past as you explore the Fossil House, then learn about a more recent past by touring the Diana Mine and three historic mining towns nearby.
Major Attractions and Events
Every September, hundreds of hot air balloons take to the skies in the Great Reno Balloon Race. Get ready to camp in your rental motorhome, right in the middle of the action!
Why not view an exciting performance under the stars at the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival? Every summer, Shakespeare aficionados gather to witness the best of the bard along the lakeshore. Pick your favorite and make your reservation at a nearby campground.
No vacation to Nevada would be complete without a stop at Hoover Dam. Just thirty miles from Las Vegas, you can easily include it in an RV gambling jaunt. Tour this engineering wonder—the drive across the Dam itself is worth the trip!
While you’re at the Dam, take a short drive south to Laughlin. This riverside town offers something for your entire group, with casinos, nearby lakes and desert hiking trails, not to mention outlet malls for every shopping taste!
For NASCAR fans, an RV trip to Las Vegas Motor Speedway is just the ticket. Join the giant tailgate parties before AND after the race, made easy when you’re in an El Monte RV! Nevada also boasts numerous short track racing venues, making it an even better bargain for racetrack campers!
We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention college football when we talk about Nevada. Whether it’s the Wolf Pack at Reno or the Rebels in Las Vegas, exciting gridiron action waits for the RV camper!
