Traveling with Pets on your RV Vacation
A vacation in an RV is something to remember, and when the family can take their pet along, it is all the more enjoyable.
RV CAMPING AND PET TRAVEL IN NORTH AMERICA
The summer season invites travelers into the diverse landscapes of the United States to enjoy the best of nature, the wonderful attractions, and the historical sites which tell us so much of our heritage. Bringing your best friend along with you makes the trip a real family adventure, because after all, your pet is part of your family.
Traveling in an RV motorhome is the perfect way to travel with a pet. You can have everything familiar to the dog, such as his or her favorite bedding, the toys he plays with constantly, familiar bowls and dishes that he loves to eat from. This creates an atmosphere of home and makes your pet more comfortable.
There are vacation destinations in every corner of our country that are very pet-friendly and you will find numerous RV parks which provide special amenities for dogs. Destinations that provide a pet-friendly vacation range from national parks and state parks, to famous attractions and historic sites. And El Monte RV does not charge for taking your pet along with you in your RV motorhome.
Pet-Friendly Vacation Destinations
Many national parks allow for pets, although most still require folks to keep their dog on a leash. Some permit you to take your pet onto the hiking trails with you. A very dog-friendly park is Grand Canyon National Park, where you can walk with your dog along the rim and take in the amazing sights. Yosemite National Park is another great park where you can hike with your dog. In Maine, stop at Acadia National Park and hike to your heart’s content with your pet on virtually all trails and carriage roads. You can let your dog off-leash at Coronado Beach and Ocean Beach in San Diego. You will find Walt Disney World in Florida is extremely pet-friendly.
Tips to RV Camping with Pets
Some tips for traveling with pets on an RV camping vacation:
- Arrange it so your dog cannot come and interfere with your driving. Block off the front from the back of the RV or have a pet carrier where your pet can ride when you are driving.
- Stop every two or three hours when on a long road trip so your pet can exercise and get a potty break. This makes your dog much more comfortable and will be good for you too!
- Call ahead to the campgrounds where you plan to stay to confirm their policies for pets. You want to ensure your dog fits any requirement that you may not be aware of.
- It is always polite, no matter where you go, to clean up after your dog. Common courtesy helps your reputation as well as the reputation of pet owners everywhere. Set a good example!
- Avoid your dog getting lost by either having him on a leash at all times or ensuring he is extremely obedient and will come when you call. You can also take photos of him so if he does go missing, you will have a picture to show others so they can help you find him.
RV Camping and Pet Travel
No matter where you go, you’ll find many RV campgrounds in some amazing locations, such as on lakes, the seashore or in a grove of pines with magnificent mountain views. Some pet-friendly RV parks provide amenities for pets but also have incredible features for human vacationers. Garden of the Gods Campground in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is pet-friendly with lots of space to romp. Rafting and fishing is nearby. Racing fans love to stay at the pet-friendly Ocala Sun RV Resort in Ocala, Florida. NASCAR lovers can bring their pets here with no worries.
To find the best parks at your planned destination, simply do a web search for "pet-friendly RV campgrounds” with the name of your destination. This will turn up a wealth of options for RV camping in that area.
